Astrakhan region is located in the south of Russia in the lower reaches of the Volga River near the Caspian Sea. The region borders Kazakhstan by land, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan by sea. The Astrakhan Region borders the Volgograd Region and the Republic of Kalmykia.

Recently the Caspian region has regained strategic importance for our state. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has repeatedly stated this in his speeches.
Astrakhan region has an advantageous geographical location. In the changing economic and political conditions, the region continues to implement major investment projects, actively develops international relations, strengthens the logistics infrastructure, and improves the system of state support for business.
We are making many efforts to strengthen ties with the countries connected by the international North-South transport corridor. Today, the MTK is one of the priorities for the development of not only Astrakhan, but also the Russian economy as a whole. Large corporations are already investing in the expansion of the infrastructure of the North-South corridor. A large-scale development of the special port economic zone and the industrial SEZ "Lotus" is underway. The prospects are the widest, and they are open to you.
MTK is not the only point of growth. Astrakhan region has a high tourist and educational potential. The oil and gas industry, agriculture and shipbuilding are developed here.

The main sectors of the economy are the oil and gas industry, the chemical industry, the shipbuilding complex, agriculture, the processing industry, mechanical engineering, the construction materials industry, transport and logistics, trade, the food industry, the fishing industry, tourism.
270 enterprises (as of January 1, 2023) with the participation of foreign capital from 45 countries operate in the Astrakhan region.

The total area of the Astrakhan region is 52.9 thousand square kilometers. The population of the region is 950 thousand; 389 people. The share of the urban population is 64%.

Over the past four years, from 2019 to 2022, the volume of shipped goods of its own production and services performed by enterprises of the Astrakhan region exceeded 605.9 billion rubles, an increase of 36%.
The projects of LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC on the development of hydrocarbon resources of the Russian part of the Caspian Sea shelf had a significant impact on this dynamics. In 2022-2023, two new oil and gas fields were discovered in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea: Khazri and the IM field. Ravil Maganov. In the continental part of the Astrakhan Region, one of the significant projects is to increase production at the existing Astrakhan gas condensate field (AGCM). Gazprom PJSC started its implementation in 2019. The project provides for an increase in the separation gas production capacity by 50% to the existing level (up to 18 billion cubic meters) by 2028. In 2022, the volume of accumulated separation gas production at the AGKM reached 300 billion cubic meters.
In 2023, the modernization project of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk trunk oil pipeline system of Caspian Pipeline Consortium-R JSC will be completed, aimed at increasing the pipeline's capacity to 83 million tons per year.
One of the main manufacturing industries in the region is shipbuilding. Astrakhan shipbuilding enterprises have the necessary production facilities, experienced personnel and knowledge to implement complex construction projects on the shelf of the Caspian Sea, as well as the construction of ships of the transport, passenger and dredging fleet.
In 2019, thanks to the cooperation of the government of the Astrakhan region, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), the production activity of the shipyard in the working village of Krasnye Barricades was restored, which allowed creating about 1 thousand jobs. The production site came under the control of JSC "Southern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center" (SCCC, structure of USC). The Center also coordinates the work of JSC "SSZ Lotos". The production volume of the JCCC increased from 754 million rubles (2020) to 1.3 billion rubles (2022).
Over the past four years, Astrakhan shipbuilders have built facilities for the development of the IM field. Greifer and Filanovsky for NK LUKOIL, dredger project 3409A, tanker project RST-25, chemical tanker project 00216M, dredger project 93.159, passenger ships project PKS-180, floating crane 02690.
Currently, the Astrakhan shipyards are building the cruise liner Peter the Great, a series of three dredgers of the 93.159 project, a chemical tanker of the 00216M project, a tanker of the RST-25 project, a dry cargo ship of the RSD-49 project, a dredger of the FPDG3 project, four container ships, a fishing trawler.
The volume of production of enterprises in other manufacturing industries of the Astrakhan region has increased significantly: from 2019 to 2022, PJSC Astrakhan Fiberglass increased this figure from 605 million rubles to 665 million rubles, LLC PKF Sardonix (shoe manufacturing) from 182 million rubles to 298 million rubles, LLC PKF Dune-Ast (shoe production) from 380 million rubles to 470 million rubles, LLC PKF Karon-Met (production of spare parts) from 186 million rubles to 364 million rubles.
The Volga River and the Akhtuba arm branching off from it near Volgograd flow through the territory of the region, connected by a large number of channels. The space between the Volga and Akhtuba is called the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain. At the mouth, the Volga divides into many branches forming its complex delta. The largest of them are Bakhtemir, Bolda, Buzan, etc.
The lakes of the region, by origin, are divided into tectonic, dammed, mixed; by chemical composition - into fresh and salty. There are many salt lakes in the region; fresh lakes (Ilmeni) are numerous in the floodplain and delta of the Volga.
The Volga Delta is one of the largest deltas in the world and occupies over 24 thousand km in the Caspian Lowland. The length from north to south is 120 km, along the sea edge of the delta - 200 km.
The region is most famous for its reserves of hydrocarbon raw materials — natural gas and gas condensate. The continental part of the Astrakhan region and the adjacent Caspian Sea contain large reserves of oil and gas, which are the largest in the European part of Russia.
The projected resources of the part of the Caspian Sea adjacent to the Astrakhan region for oil and gas condensate amount to about 300 million tons, natural gas — more than 600 billion cubic meters.
There are deposits of table salt, gypsum, mineral waters, therapeutic mud and iodine in the Astrakhan region.
From 2017 to 2023, 12 solar power plants with a total capacity of 285 MW and a high-tech wind farm with a total installed capacity of 340.2 MW were built and operate in the region. The installed capacity of the Astrakhan region increased by 625.2 MW. The volume of electricity generation from renewable energy sources has also been increased to 1,328.2 million kW.h in 2022.
On the Day of the Astrakhan region, an agreement on cooperation in the field of solar energy development was signed at the Russia exhibition. Unigreen Energy plans to build a number of solar power plants with a total capacity of up to 350 MW by the end of 2027.
Astrakhan Region has a strong position in the domestic and inbound tourism market in the Russian Federation. The hotel industry of the region is represented by hotel complexes, hotels, recreation centers, sanatoriums providing accommodation and additional services designed for various categories of consumers. The greatest tourist and recreational activity is concentrated in the field of fishing and hunting tourism.
This is facilitated by the unique reserves of aquatic biological resources of the Volga River delta and the coastal part of the Northern Caspian Sea adjacent to the Astrakhan region.
The city of Astrakhan, as a center of architectural monuments, cultural sites, administrative and business centers, is a leader in tourists visiting for business, cultural and educational purposes.
