Kamyzyaksky District

Kamyzyaksky District is located in the south of the Astrakhan Region, within the Caspian Depression, on the shore of the Caspian Sea. The district occupies the main part of the Volga River delta; its territory is dissected by numerous branches and channels radiating in a fan pattern towards the Caspian Sea. Part of the district's territory belongs to the Astrakhan Biosphere Reserve. The district's main natural wealth is its water resources. The branching network of rivers and channels of the Volga delta creates unique conditions for fishing and fish farming. The district is famous for its rich fish fauna (sturgeon, pelagic species), which is reflected in the coat of arms and flag of the municipality. The Damchinsky and Trekhizbinsky sites of the Astrakhan Reserve are located within the district, together with protected natural monuments — Uvarinsky, Khazovsky, Gandurinsky and Maly Zhemchuzhny Island. Ecologically clean lands, reed thickets and blooming lotus create picturesque landscapes attractive to tourists. The basis of the district's economy is a multi-industry agro-industrial complex. Rice, vegetables and melons are grown. Beef and dairy cattle breeding and stud horse breeding are well developed. The industrial sector is represented by ship-repair, textile and garment production.
