Limansky District

Limansky Municipal District is located in the south of the Astrakhan Region. The district borders the Ikryaninsky and Narimanovsky districts of the region. To the south-west it has an extended border with the Republic of Kalmykia. The uniqueness of its geographical position is determined by its proximity to the Caspian Sea and its location in the Volga delta, which creates specific natural and climatic conditions. The economy of the district has a pronounced logistics and agricultural orientation. The key enterprise is the seaport Olya — a strategic facility of the North-South international transport corridor. A port special economic zone has been established within the district. The district is a recognised leader of the Astrakhan Region in potato production. The area has deposits of brick and tile raw materials (clay and loam), which creates potential for the development of the construction industry. The district has an extensive network of water bodies — ilmens, channels and lakes, which accounts for the development of fishing and water management.
